Mindful Spending

A recent post on the blog Scoutie Girl caught my eye. Following the links, I found something well-worth sharing with you. Did you read it? I’ll wait.

Ok. Let me know what you think. As a mindful spender, are you ready to commission something personal, lasting, unique? I’d be happy to work with you on that desk Aunt Lydia left you or that quirky but scuffed coffee table. Transformation is just a paintbrush away.

And as you might guess, my work is one-of-a-kind, satisfaction guaranteed. And I’m an artist that believes my time and talent are worthy. Someone recently dropped off work expecting me to paint for free, ” ’cause we’re friends.” That was embarrassing. I’m still not sure how to address that misconception and maintain the relationship…

One Response to Mindful Spending

    Hi, Rebecca–

That happens a lot to artists, musicians, and writers. It is disconcerting when people do not understand that there is a professional side to artistry. It is maddening when the line is crossed. If you want to save the friendship, I would barter with him or her. Ask him or her to do something for you, “because we’re friends.” He or she will catch the hint. Easier said than done, I know. Good luck! xo
